Time is, in some ways, an abstract reality, but in many ways, it is an extremely concrete reality. Time is a commodity by which and to which we are all bound. We so live our lives and define our days by the seasons and the hours of which time takes its form. As Solomon says: “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven.” - Ecclesiastes 3:1
Time is not simply something we see on a clock or a measure by which we organize our day, but it is a reminder of brevity and the importance found in actions and inactions. Hopefully, it causes us to focus on life's most important issues. "And to do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, lewdness and lust, strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. "– Romans 13:11-14
What is it that takes up our time? What do we focus upon day in and day out? Do those things have eternal benefits? Are they things of darkness? God would have us to take a survey of time, to consider our own lives and what we have given ourselves too. Let us put away the things that do not further righteousness, move us away from God, and foster darkness within our hearts and souls. Let us instead focus our thoughts and our time on things that carry a much greater weight, even the salvation of our souls. Let us share that time with those we come into contact with. Will you take this TIME to make a change?
